Granny squares are quick to work up and very enjoyable too. The patterns out there are endless, and finding/working a new design can be lots of fun. Grannies can be simple and solid in color or they can have dimension, appliques, embroidery, and fancy colorwork.
I have heard of others gathering grannies from around the world to assemble into gorgeous memory blankets for families who have lost someone (usually ones who have lost a child), and I always thought it was such a beautiful idea.
Recently a particular story touched my heart, and I decided to put together a blanket for a local family: The family of Lily Johnson.
Lily Johnson and her friend Alyssa Miner were walking home from school one day, when a Jeep crossed the center line, jumped the curb and struck them. Lily, sadly, did not survive this horrible accident.
This blanket is for her family. I am asking all those who crochet to make a square, or two, or 10! Make as many as you can, so that I can assemble this blanket in her memory. If you would like to help out, I am looking for the following:
Please fill out the form below, telling me how many squares you would like to contribute.
I ask that you send these out by the first of May, so that I have time to assemble them.
Thank you!

- I would prefer feminine colors (pinks, purples, yellows, etc.), but your are not limited to them.
